Hepatitis B Vaccine
Who Should Get It:
The Hepatitis B vaccine protects against a serious liver infection caused by the Hepatitis B virus. It’s recommended for:
All infants (first dose at birth)
Unvaccinated children and teens
Adults at risk, including healthcare workers, people with multiple sexual partners, those with chronic liver or kidney disease, and travelers to high-risk areas
Anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated and wants lifelong protection
Before the Injection:
Let your provider know if you’re not feeling well or have had an allergic reaction to a previous Hepatitis B vaccine or yeast.
No special preparation is required.
After the Injection:
Mild side effects may include:
Soreness at the injection site
Mild fever or fatigue
Headache
These usually resolve within 1–2 days.
Serious side effects are extremely rare.
Protection Timeline:
Given in a 3-dose series over 6 months (some adult versions offer a 2-dose option)
Full protection develops after completing all doses
Protection is long-term, often lifelong
